Irena Ograjenšek is Full Professor of Statistics at the University of Ljubljana's School of Economics and Business and since 2014 a Visiting Professor at Wirtschaftsuniversität (WU) Wien. She studied in the PhD programmes of the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) and Emory University (USA). Her research work at the level of an organisation is dedicated to measurement of customer and employee satisfaction as well as service quality. At the level of industry/economy as a whole and region/country/group of countries she applies qualitative and survey methodology when researching issues related to competitiveness, economic growth, urban revitalization, labour market and local community development. She is author and co-author of numerous scientific articles published at home and abroad. At her home institution she organized two international scientific conferences: ENBIS-12 and ReNewTown Final Conference. In the period 2009-2011 she was serving the professional statistical community as President of the European Network for Business and Industrial Statistics (ENBIS). After her presidency she continues as this organization’s Council Member and was named its Honorary Member in 2020. In the period 2009-2013 she was Vice President of the International Association for Statistical Education (IASE). At the World Statistics Congress which took place in Hong Kong in August 2013 she was elected a Council Member of the International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics (ISBIS); at the World Statistics Congress in Marrakesh in July 2017 she became a Vice President for Scientic Programme of this organisation for a period of four years. In the election process which took place from September 4th to October 27th, 2014, the members of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) elected Prof. Dr. Ograjenšek as a Council Member in the mandate period 2015-2019. ISI is the oldest and most reputable international association of statisticians. Its informal beginnings can be traced back to the year 1853. It was formally established in 1885. A non-profit and non-governmental organization, ISI unites economic and official statisticians, survey methodologists, business and industrial statisticians, statistical educators, mathematical statisticians and many other subgroups which deal with the challenges of theoretical statistics as well as practical application of statistics and methodology. ISI has been an advisory body of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since 1949. It also acts as an advisory body of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Prof. Dr. Ograjenšek started her four-year mandate at the 60th World Statistics Congress which took place in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in July 2015. Following the completion of her mandate, she has again intensified her research on statistical education challenges as well as cross-pollination of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Her conceptual and research contributions to these two domains are discussed in eminent scientific outlets such as Harvard Data Science Review, International Statistical Review and American Anthropologist.
