This course explores key principles of monetary theory and monetary and fiscal policy conduct. It begins by identifying frictions that demand exchange media, including liquid securities. The roles of private and central banks in influencing the money supply and interest rates are examined. A theoretical framework is developed to explain the use of exchange media, assess budget deficits, and analyze the debt-to-GDP ratio. The course also investigates the impact of monetary policy under various fiscal regimes, applying the analysis to historical and contemporary events.
