Be international

On Tuesday, 10 December 2024, the eagerly awaited Be International event, organised by the International Relations Office, took place at the School of Economics and Business at the University of Ljubljana. The event was met with great interest and the Hofer Hall was filled to capacity as students gathered to explore international opportunities at UL SEB.
The programme was divided into three main areas:
1. Study exchanges and application procedures
2. Double degrees and internships
3. Networking and informal socialising
The event began with an opening speech by Prof Dr Mojca Indihar Štemberger, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, who encouraged students to take advantage of the many international experiences offered by the Faculty. This was followed by an inspiring speech by Darja Saksida Bogataj, Head of the International Relations Office, who quoted St Augustine: “The world is a book, and those who does not travel read only one page.” She emphasised the importance of international experience as a cornerstone for personal and academic development, be it through study exchanges, double degree programmes, summer schools or participation in buddy initiatives.
Pika Silva Šiškin, the event’s coordinator, gave a comprehensive overview of the various exchange opportunities available to students, including Erasmus+, bilateral agreements and CEEPUS programmes, as well as opportunities for summer schools, tutoring and internships. With a robust network of over 200 partner institutions around the world, UL SEB gives its students the tools to gain new knowledge, skills and perspectives.
Participants received important information about the application process, destination selection, scholarship opportunities and important deadlines. Students are reminded that applications for the 2025/26 academic year must be submitted by 16 January 2025 and the selection process will close in March 2025.
The event also featured a guest lecture by Prof Dr Felix Krebber from Pforzheim University, a valued partner university, who highlighted the benefits of studying abroad and encouraged students to consider Pforzheim as a potential exchange destination.
Following the official presentations, the students took part in thematic sessions on double degrees and internships. Information corners in the lobby offered detailed insights into summer and winter programmes as well as tutoring opportunities. The event also welcomed international exchange students currently studying at UL SEB, who shared first-hand accounts of their experiences and represented their home institutions.
The day concluded with an informal gathering, where participants enjoyed hot drinks and refreshments and were able to exchange ideas and socialise in a relaxed atmosphere.
The International Relations Office would like to thank all teaching staff who actively support and encourage student participation in international programmes. Events such as Be International play a crucial role in broadening students’ horizons and preparing them for the global stage.
