THE BEGINNING
Our success story began in 1993 when Janez Prašnikar, PhD, and his colleagues identified a need in Slovenia for managers with up-to-date, globally competitive knowledge and skills. They designed an MBA programme for current and future eminent managers in collaboration with leading business schools and experts. The programme, originally based in Radovljica, was designed in such a way to provide students with analytical skills, relevant managerial tools for environment analysis and decision making, and train them to work intensively in a multicultural and extremely competitive environment.
The costs of the programme in Radovljica were incomparably higher than today’s programme fee, and students mainly needed to gain a scholarship from companies to attend the programme. The students worked hard, yet they also had a great time, and many still refer to their study experience as one of the most valuable in their life.
Later, the MBA Radovljica programme was moved to the School of Economics and Business main quarters in Ljubljana and renamed the IMB (International Full-Time Master’s Programme in Business and Organisation). This was done to address the needs of the changing structure in student profiles attending the programme.
FACTS
- In the first few generations of students, male students dominated, and they invariably had significant working experience before attending the programme.
- Each year more female students attended the programme, meaning that in contemporary generations, there is a natural balance between genders.
- Students from abroad were increasingly interested in attending the IMB programme, and now at least one third of the students come abroad, from 27 countries: Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Latvia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Serbia, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States of America.
- Younger applicants are more common these days due to changes in Slovenia’s educational system. IMB now primarily attracts ambitious young talent.
