Tourism Economics and Tourism Policy (MASTER)

Goals

Familiarize students with the concept of tourism economics and policy.
Show economic functions, economic instruments, development of instruments of tourism policy and its power.
Develop knowledge for shaping and use of tourism policy instruments on the cases from practice, with respect of the limitations from broader environment. Train students to use theoretical knowledge on practical examples.

Economic instruments and environmental protection in tourism.
Governments and leisure, sport and tourism – framework and perspectives.
Needs and benefits – implications for public policy.
Human rights and citizenship rights – connection to tourism policy.
Role of the market and role of the state – connection to tourism impacts, environmental theories and instruments.
Policy and planning in particular sectors.
Policy and planning for particular groups.
Issues and challenges in tourism policy making.
Tourism policymaking in EU.
Strategic planning.
Evaluating approaches to planning for leisure, sport and tourism.
Consultation in policy making/planning.
