Contemporary entrepreneurship (MASTER)

Goals

Students will:
- Identify the research areas addressed in the current entrepreneurship literature.
- Utilize key entrepreneurship concepts and identify connections between them. Identify approaches used in the development of entrepreneurship theory.
- Analyse the process of exploring and exploiting entrepreneurial opportunities.
- Exhibit knowledge of principles of entrepreneurial mindset. Understand behavioral, cognitive and psychological characteristics of entrepreneurs.
- Recognize and analyse entrepreneurial resources and approaches to decision making in venture creation.
- Investigate the specifics of start-up entrepreneurship, dynamic entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship, and high-tech entrepreneurship.

Syllabus

1) Perspective of entrepreneurship. Why is it important? Entrepreneurship as a field of research.
2) Entrepreneurial process. Opportunity exploration and exploitation.
3) Entrepreneur: Why some individuals and not others explore and exploit opportunities. Cognitive perspective.
4) Entrepreneurial teams.
5) Non-financial capital of the entrepreneur (social and psychological capital, entrepreneurial networks).
6) Entrepreneurial resources. Resource-based view of the firm. Effectuation, causation, bricolage. Organizational legitimacy and entrepreneurial storytelling as resources.
7) Entrepreneurial opportunities in different contexts: Intrapreneurship. High-tech entrepreneurship. Social media entrepreneurship. Dynamic entrepreneurship.
8) Entrepreneurial growth.
9) Entrepreneurial failure.
