Croatia wins the European Ethics Bowl 2024

Last weekend, 8 – 10 November 2024, UL SEB organised and hosted the semi-finals and finals of the international competition European Ethics Bowl. Ten teams from nine European universities and one team from the alumni programme of the European Investment Bank Institute Summer School took part in this year’s event. This year, the overall theme of the competition was “Ethics and Artificial Intelligence”.

UL SEB hosted Professor Claudia Buch, PhD

On Tuesday, 8 October, the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the European Single Supervisory Mechanism for Banks, the School of Economics and Business hosted Professor Claudia Buch, PhD, Chair of the Supervisory Board of the Single Supervisory Mechanism at the European Central Bank, which is responsible for the regulatory supervision of banks in the European Banking Union.

Valentin Jesenko, founder of Dever, a leading company in immersive technology solutions shared how back in 2015 the idea for Dever was born from the belief that smartphones had reached their peak potential. Dever collaborates with major players like Apple, Google, Lidl, and international airports, creating augmented and virtual reality solutions that lower costs and enhance training by simulating complex work scenarios.

We were honoured to welcome Nada Simoneti, an IMB alumna, for a guest lecture in the Managerial Economics course. During her presentation, Ms. Simoneti detailed Petrol’s evolving strategy, focusing on the company’s shift from its core business in petroleum products to becoming a more comprehensive energy solutions provider.

At the end of September, students from the 31st generation embarked on their final study trip, a week-long academic journey through Portugal and Spain designed to enrich their understanding of industry, innovation, and cross-cultural business practices. This trip, which played a pivotal role in supporting the students’ ongoing project for the Portorož Business Conference (PKP), offered a combination of company visits, lectures, and research opportunities, all of which provided essential insights for the development of their research.

The traditional SEB market: a great start to the new academic year

On Wednesday, 16 October 2024, the atrium of the School of Economics and Business came to life. The traditional ‘EF tržnica’ (eng. SEB market), organised by the Student Organisation and the Student Council of the School of Economics and Business, provided a great start to the new academic year. ‘EF tržnica’ is an event, where student associations based at UL SEB, present themselves and what they do, at stands around the atrium.
